HOSPITALITY

LANCASTER CUPCAKE

Bespoke design and franchise development can feel at odds as restaurateurs strive to create environments that are unique and memorable, yet easily duplicated. When Lancaster Cupcake, a gourmet bakery, sought the guidance of TONO Group to develop a franchise prototype, the team led with customer experience and workflow to achieve both imperatives.

OUR APPROACH

Using their interdisciplinary approach, architectural and interior design leads from TONO submerged themselves in the client’s processes, absorbing insight into operational procedures from kitchen to retail. In a few short weeks, TONO delivered strategies to optimize space, streamline workflows and engage customers using a branding scheme of charming design details and unique furniture concepts. Working with a recently constructed 4,500-square-foot retail space, TONO transformed the building’s interior from a blank shell into functional areas including a frosting zone where customers can witness cupcake artistry unfold.

OUTCOME

The whimsical design was developed to complement the brand’s marketing materials while leveraging finishes that can withstand the unrelenting demands of a commercial restaurant/retail use. Porcelain tile, quartz, and natural wood tones invoke a soft, feminine ambience for this “girl-owned” business. Accents of antique gold and deep teal balance the mood with timeless appeal. The environment is anchored by a floor-to-ceiling expanse of variated pink subway tile reminiscent of fresh-whipped frosting, creating the perfect backdrop to showcase the Lancaster Cupcake logo.
